Details: Per our oncology team, vaginal dryness can occur as a result of cancer treatments due to a decreased level of estrogen in a woman's body or changes to vaginal tissue. Cancer treatment can cause thinning of vaginal tissue and decreased production of natural lubrication resulting in vaginal dryness, bleeding, and/or pain during sexual intercourse. Vaginal lubricants are helpful for sexual activity, and must be applied frequently. Avoid scented products or petroleum containing products that can be irritating. Use water or silicone-based products. Please keep in mind that silicone based products can disrupt effectiveness of condoms.
