At a Glance: Cold caps filled with a gel coolant may be worn during chemotherapy to help prevent hair loss. Cold caps decrease the effect of chemotherapy medication on the hair follicles.
Details: Cold caps are filled with a gel coolant that’s chilled to an optimum temperature to help with hair loss. These caps may help some women keep some or quite a bit of their hair during chemotherapy by reducing the amount of chemotherapy medicine that reaches their hair follicles. The cold also decreases the activity of the hair follicles, which slows down cell growth and replication and makes the follicles less affected by the chemotherapy medicine. The chemo cold cap system has a patented surgical steel insert which we specifically designed to hold the 6 caps. This allows them to freeze and refreeze between changes to the correct temperature. This system is the only system that allows this and the benefit to you is that it keeps your hands away from the dry ice during the capping process. You will not need to juggle more unnecessary caps packed directly in dry ice.
